Series Spotlight: Preservation

Innovation in Preservation

Uncover the techniques, tools, and materials helping practitioners breathe new life into historic architecture, landscape design, and decorative and fine art.

Series Description

New York City is a palimpsest: many buildings have lived multiple lives, their architecture being reimagined and reinvented to fit the needs of successive generations. It should come as no surprise that a city that changes as quickly and voraciously as New York is a leader in devising new strategies and methods for historic preservation and adaptive reuse. It takes a lot of forward-thinking people to keep our city’s past present—from financing to design to construction, preservation demands innovative thinking at every step.

Open House New York and the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation invite you to visit a selection of places that demonstrate cutting-edge practices for preserving, protecting, and opening historic architecture, landscape design, and decorative and fine arts. Learn about how, in protecting the past, preservation stewards create lasting resources for future generations.
