Explore the award-winning WHIN Music Community Charter School, the first school in the Northeast founded on the principles of El Sistema. Designed and constructed by GLUCK+, the new eight-story school transforms a 1914 parking garage into architecture for social action with music at the core. The school received the 2025 Special Design Award for Innovation in Adaptive Reuse Design from the Society of American Registered Architects | NY Council and the 2025 NYCxDesign Early Education Award.

Join architect and builder Thomas Gluck to learn more about how the building expresses the school’s mission to integrate music into every aspect of its curriculum. Experience the city as you move through the building—WHIN’s main learning tool is the musical ensemble, so the theater is visible to the lobby and the street, forming a connection among students, teachers, and parents, while inviting the community to engage and take part in WHIN’s mission.

Tour the building to see unobstructed views of the city from the top gym floor, where a 20’ high steel truss suspends the new 5-story addition, preserving the garage masonry structure and giving the building new life while minimizing environmental impact.

Visitors will be asked to present government-issued ID for entry.

Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged.

Children 6+ welcome. Every person attending, including children, requires a ticket.
