Step inside one of the Bronx’s hidden architectural gems: the former Dollar Savings Bank at 2516 Grand Concourse. Completed in 1933 by the noted firm Halsey, McCormack & Helmer, the building reflects the optimism and civic ambition of the Grand Concourse’s Art Deco era. Its monumental limestone façade, geometric ornament, and grand entrance signaled both strength and stability to a community on the rise.
Though today the site operates as a Fine Fare supermarket, many of the landmarked details of the original banking hall remain. During Open House New York, visitors will have the rare chance to look beyond the everyday function of the space and appreciate its original design intent. Consider the story of how the bank served generations of Bronx residents, why it earned Landmarks Preservation Commission designation, and how adaptive reuse has kept the building active while respecting its historic fabric.
Maddd Equities, together with Aufgang Architects, has been involved in stewarding the renovation and adaptive reuse of this property. Maddd continues to work to ensure that the building’s architectural and cultural legacy is preserved and serves as a vibrant neighborhood hub.
This site is an active supermarket, so visitors will be sharing the space with customers during the tour. Please be respectful of shoppers and staff.
