The Voelker Orth Museum, Bird Sanctuary, and Victorian Garden was home to three generations of a German immigrant family. They left Manhattan for Queens for fresh air and a comfortable middle class life at a time when NYC was growing into a modern metropolis. The property has retained its 1890s-1930s appearance and welcomes visitors year-round. There’s a house tour, art and art-making, and a Victorian-styled garden to enjoy.
Sunday Tours: Tours ongoing, about 30 minutes each.
Family Programming: The museum provides garden discovery activity guides for young children.
The garden, activity annex, and main floor of the museum are accessible.
General printed information about the Museum is available in Chinese, English, Korean and Spanish.
There are two honey bee colonies on-site, but away from the main garden.
Children are welcome accompanied by an adult.
Family Friendly: Bring the kids! More than a dozen OHNY Weekend partners are offering special activities for families. Most activities are free and open to the public. Explore more.
