Completed earlier this year, the Halletts Point Esplanade opens a stretch of Astoria's waterfront to the public for the first time in decades. Designed by Starr Whitehouse for the Durst Organization's Halletts Point Development, this 2.5-acre site features a flexible lawn, waterfront seating, a nautically themed playground, and a continuous public walkway framed by native plants and sweeping views to Manhattan. Accessible paths create a journey to the water through maritime plantings and locally sourced boulders—complete with everything that visitors need to enjoy an afternoon on the East River. Tour the site with Project Landscape Architect Kristen Reardon and learn about everything Starr Whitehouse and The Durst Organization did to reconnect Astoria to this key piece of its waterfront.

This is an outdoor walking tour. Guests should dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.

The closest bathroom on the route is at NYC Parks Halletts Cove Playground.

Children are welcome accompanied by an adult (recommended for ages 10+). All participants, including children, must have a ticket.

Water Works: Discover how water shapes the city, from the system of pipes that delivers 1 billion gallons of clean water into (and out of) homes daily, to the working waterfront that drove the city's economy for centuries, to the challenges of adapting 520 miles of shoreline for a wetter future.
