Freshkills Park is a 2,200-acre landfill-to park-project and a model for sustainable land reclamation. This park is the largest park being built in NYC in over 150 years! Take a tour of the North Park area, then head up to the top of North Mound, located in the DSNY Site! On this tour, the Freshkills Park Alliance and NYC Parks will discuss the past, present, and future of Freshkills Park. Participants will have the opportunity to admire grasslands, wetlands, and wildlife.

The Friday tour will be led by Shannon Erickson, Director of Education and Development for the Freshkills Park Alliance. The Sunday tour will be led by Christopher Ricker, the Freshkills Park Program Director.

This will be an approximately 3+ mile walk. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated on the tour, as the group needs to enter and exit together.

Please be tick aware (wear long pants and closed-toe shoes) and dress appropriately for the weather. The site is completely outdoors. Pets are not allowed on the DSNY property.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Every person attending, including children, requires a ticket. All participants will need to sign a waiver before entering the site.
