Kingsland Wildflowers—a partnership between Broadway Stages, Newtown Creek Alliance, Alive Structures, and NOoSPHERE Arts—is a 25,000-sq. ft. green roof pollinator garden set on top of an active film studio in the Greenpoint industrial zone, overlooking the city’s largest wastewater treatment plant and the maritime activities on the Newtown Creek. Located above the country’s largest terrestrial oil spill, the building's green roofs provide an invaluable oasis for plants, pollinators, and humans alike.
The roofs provide incredible views of Manhattan and the heavy industrial zones both next door and in the distance. NCA staff members will be available to talk with visitors and answer questions about ongoing local environmental challenges and Superfund cleanup of the waterway by Newtown Creek Alliance.
To access the community space and the lower meadow (both located on the 4th floor), there are 3.5 flights of stairs or an elevator in the lobby. The elevator can also reach the top floor, where the upper meadow is located (5th floor); however, there is a step up once the elevator opens to access the upper meadow. Pathways across the green roofs are made of large slabs of stone that can be uneven at times.
Visitors are encouraged to bring water bottles, hats and to wear sunscreen.
Pets are not permitted.
Children are welcome accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times.
