The Hindu Temple Society of North America incorporated on January 26, 1970, and completed the construction of the first Hindu Temple in North America in July 1977. Composed largely of imported granite materials and constructed by special artisans from India, it is one of the most impressive and historically important Hindu Temples in the West. The temple has five big and four small black granite stone shrines with stone icons, 20 wall shrines with metal icons, five domes (four on all the cardinal directions and one 50-foot tall tower facing east), a sunlit, glass-roofed walkway flanked by 16 granite stone pillars, artistically carved teak doors, and two pure silver chariots. View and learn about temple architecture, an array of divinities, and the rituals and services seeking blessings of knowledge, wisdom, wealth and prosperity, and protection. Be sure to stop by the Temple Canteen to purchase a delicious hot vegetarian meal!
