OId Home Day, Historic Richmond Town's annual festival of living history and cultural heritage, showcases the traditions of the past and the diversity of Staten Island today. Demonstrations of historic trades are featured in open buildings throughout the village campus. Fresh apple cider is pressed behind the tavern, along with warm soup made over an open flame and fresh bread baked in the 1820s kitchen of the Guyon-Lake-Tysen House. Live performances of historical music echo from the taproom of the tavern.
Saturday Activities:
- Living History Programs: See demonstrations of Tinsmithing, Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Chair caning, broom making, candle making, basket making, and more.
- Native Encampment Programs: Visit living historians at the Native Encampment who will be interpreting the history of the people of the Northeast Woodlands in the 17th century.
- Restoration Station: Historic Richmond Town Restoration Team will demonstrate woodworking tools and processes
- Food: Fresh baked bread, soup and apple cider, all made on site, are available for purchase.
- Live Music: A variety of musical acts will perform throughout the weekend.
- Vendors and special presenters: Visit with doll makers, fiber artists, beekeepers, calligraphers, and special guests.
While many of the site's buildings have wheelchair-accessible entrances, such as the Museum and Visitor Center at the Third County Courthouse, wheelchair access to many of the historic structures on-site varies. Personal photography is allowed and no-flash photography is allowed inside the historic houses. Certain restrictions apply to commercial photography on site. Professional photography is not permitted at Historic Richmond Town without the purchase of a Day Photo Permit or Season Photo Pass.
