10:00am — 2:00pm
In the heart of Chelsea, the new Vanderbilt University - New York City location will open its doors to give architecture enthusiasts and those who enjoy surprising hidden spaces the chance to step inside and explore a centuries-old building. Founded in 1817, the campus is home to some of the most intricate and historically significant architectural features of any higher education campus in New York, characterized by handsome stonework, vaulted ceilings, stained glass, and high windows.
OHNY Weekend attendees will be able to visit this urban oasis on one of Manhattan’s most special blocks and explore interior and exterior portions of the 2.7 acre historic campus through self-guided tours. Architects who have led past renovations and who are planning for future updates will be on-site to answer questions and highlight the design choices that preserve historic character while welcoming a new chapter for the building and for Vanderbilt University in New York City.
Already, Vanderbilt has utilized the campus to host community programming such as the inaugural Vanderbilt in the City lecture series. Visitors will leave with a deeper appreciation of the campus’s Gothic Revival architecture, the thoughtful preservation efforts currently being planned, and Vanderbilt's excitement to further expand its connection to the city’s cultural and educational landscape. Light bites and refreshments will also be available.
The campus and building areas open for self-guided visits are ADA accessible. No pets, service animals only.
