Socrates is excited to provide a unique tour of the Park and its surroundings! Socrates will open the doors to Spacetime (long time studio of artist and Park founder Mark Di Suvero) as well as the Park’s latest civic engagement project, The Point! The tour will introduce new audience members to the world(s) Di Suvero has created both in his art practice as well as his civic engagement practice. The tour will be led by Richard Morales, Director of Public Programs at Socrates, Shaun Leonardo, Co-Director at Socrates, and Ivana Mestrovic, Director at Spacetime.

About Mark Di Suvero A pioneer in the use of steel, di Suvero is without peer in the exhibition of public sculpture worldwide. Mark di Suvero's architectural-scale sculptures - many with moving elements that invite viewer participation - have been exhibited in the United States, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom. Mark di Suvero is a lifelong activist for peace and social justice.

About Socrates Sculpture Park Socrates Sculpture Park was an abandoned riverside landfill and illegal dumpsite for decades leading up to 1986 when a coalition of artists and community members, under the leadership of artist Mark di Suvero, transformed it into an open studio and exhibition space for artists. Today, Socrates is an internationally renowned outdoor museum and a designated New York City public park known for fostering ambitious and visionary artworks.

About The Point Set to open in 2026, The Point is a new initiative that embodies Socrates’ values of ecological stewardship, artistic experimentation, and public belonging. Located on an acre at the southernmost tip of the Park, The Point will open to the public for the first time as a reimagined civic space—featuring long-term artist commissions, educational programming, and an exhibition of sculptures by Mark di Suvero.

Part of the tour takes place outdoors. Pathways may be uneven or have difficult terrain.

Ticketholders should email rm@socratessculpturepark.org for any specific accessibility needs by Thursday, October 9th.

Children are welcome accompanied by an adult. All participants, including children, must have a ticket.
