Staten Island has some of the best beaches and waterfronts in New York City, yet access to the water is scarce on the socioeconomically and racially diverse North Shore. Kayak Staten Island's mission is to bring a water sport that's often cost-prohibitive many families to everyone, to encourage environmental stewardship, build community and to elevate the potential of off-the-beaten-path urban waterfronts like the launch site at Front Street. During OHNY Weekend, experience Staten Island from a beautiful and unique vantage point by taking an hour-long kayaking tour at dusk.

All participants must sign a waiver and wear a life jacket at all times. Please note that 777 Front Street is an unfinished urban shoreline and there are ample tripping hazards. We will provide a ramp for ease of access to the water. There is no address marker or structure on site - we'll be launching at the Southernmost end of a construction fence.

The kayak tour depends on weather conditions. If the combined air and water temperature is below 120 degrees Fahrenheit, the event will be cancelled and all ticketholders notified in advance.

Please be in comfortable physical condition for an hour of paddling an 80 lb tandem kayak in potentially dynamic water conditions. We will be paddling at dusk for our later tour especially so the way back will be low-light. We will have lights on our boats and at our landing site.

Please wear synthetic materials (no jeans or cotton sweatshirts). Flip flops sandals are not permitted. Please mind your small items (keys, phone etc) if needed as you may lose them in the water if you decide to take them on the kayaks with you.

There are no restrooms on site.

This event will be cancelled in the event of high winds or lightning.

Children ages 12+ are wecome accompanied by an adult. All participants, including children, must have a ticket.
