The NYC Department of Sanitation is tasked with keeping the city moving during, and following, winter storms. The department is responsible for clearing snow and ice from roadways and bike lanes—all while keeping the collection and disposal of trash and recycling running smoothly.

Every winter, DSNY removes snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane-miles of City streets and organizes snow removal from public areas like bus stops, crosswalks and fire hydrants and step streets. Learn about the technology the Department uses during the winter season, and tour the renowned Spring Street Salt Shed, designed by Dattner Architects.

Tours will be led by DSNY staff and members of the Dattner Architects project team.

Closed-toe shoes required.

Part of the tour will take place outdoors. Participants should dress for the weather.

Children ages 10+ are welcome accompanied by an adult. All participants, including children, must have a ticket to attend.
