The Whitney Museum of American Art, located next to the Hudson River on Gansevoort Street in Manhattan's Meatpacking District, welcomes in over 1 Million visitors a year to engage with the leading artists of our time through an array of exhibitions and programming for all ages. Hurricane Sandy hit New York City in 2012 while the Whitney's current building was under construction, flooding the site with more than five million gallons of water. Building architects Cooper Robertson and the Renzo Piano Building Workshop responded by developing a flood mitigation system that can be deployed in an emergency to keep the Museum and artworks safe should another superstorm hit.

Join a tour to hear from Cooper Robertson, as well as the Whitney's Chief Facilities Officer, Peter Scott, and Head Engineer, Paul Harding, about the dynamic flood mitigation system. Tour participants will view components of the flood mitigation system, including a massive flood door, and receive guest passes to take a self-guided visit of the Museum's galleries.

A portion of this tour will take place outdoors.

Children are welcome, accompanied by an adult. All persons attending, including children, must have a ticket.
