On this walking tour of Governors Island, participants will join Billion Oyster Project in exploring how oysters are helping to restore New York Harbor—and how the organization is planning to restore 1 billion oysters by 2035. Perfect for curious kids and adults alike, this tour brings science, history, and hands-on learning to life.
What to Expect:

- Get a close-up look at local oysters in an interactive touch tank.
- Enjoy a guided walkthrough of the Public Exhibit House.
- Visit the shell pile and learn how oyster shells from restaurants are recycled to build new reef habitats.
Governor's Island is accessible via the NYC Ferry (multiple routes) as well as the Governor's Island Ferry at 10 South Street, Manhattan. Ferries depart promptly as scheduled, so please plan your route and travel time accordingly. This reservation does not include your ferry ticket. You will need to purchase a ferry ticket to board the Governor's Island ferry. You can purchase ferry tickets online at https://www.govisland.com/plan-your-visit/ferry or in-person at the ferry terminal kiosk.
The tour route includes uneven terrain and stairs, and may not be suitable for wheelchairs or individuals with mobility limitations. Participants with strollers or baby carriers should be aware that surfaces and stairs vary throughout the route. This is a walking tour and takes place mostly outdoors—comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended.
Children 5+ welcome. Every person attending, including children, requires a ticket.
