2:00pm — 6:00pm

Visitors will be welcome through the iron gates of Old Gravesend Cemetery for a tour of the landmark site. Urban Park Rangers will discuss the earliest days of English settlement in Kings County, the founding of the town of Gravesend in 1643, and its charismatic leader Lady Deborah Moody, the first European woman to own land in New York. Marked graves date from before the American Revolution through to the 20th century, and tell many stories about the changing fortunes, politics, and daily life in one of the original six villages that became modern Brooklyn.

Sunday Activities: 2, 4pm

Hour-long tours will be offered, highlighting notable graves.

The cemetery entrance and nearby pavilion where presentations will be given are wheelchair accessible. There are no paved paths into the center of the cemetery, so the site is not fully accessible.

The on-site restrooms are portasans. No other facilities are available.

Printed materials relevant to the tour and photographs of compelling marked graves will be available in the pavilion.
