Open House New York Joins Forces with Architecture Nonprofits to Launch Public Design Alliance
On June 26, The Architect’s Newspaper announced the launch of the Public Design Alliance, a new coalition of 15 architecture and design nonprofits—formed in direct response to proposed federal budget cuts that threaten funding for architecture schools and nonprofits.
Anchored in shared values, the Alliance is focused on knowledge sharing, collaborative programming, community building, and message amplification—working collectively to engage and strengthen the public realm.
“While Washington slashes funding for arts and culture, New York nonprofit leaders know that resilience is rooted in collaboration,” said Kristin LaBuz, Open House New York executive director. “Open House New York is proud to be part of the Public Design Alliance, deepening relationships with our colleagues in ways that amplify our respective missions and strengthen the civic fabric of our city.”
The founding members of the Alliance include:
AIA New York
Architectural League of New York
Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation
Center for Architecture
Center for Urban Pedagogy
Design Trust for Public Space
Institute for Public Architecture
Municipal Art Society of New York
National Academy of Design
NYCxDESIGN
Open House New York
Regional Plan Association
Storefront for Art and Architecture
Urban Design Forum
Van Alen Institute
As cities face increasingly complex challenges—from climate change to housing equity—Alliance leaders emphasize that no single organization can address them alone.
The Public Design Alliance aims to grow in the months ahead, serving as a collective platform for advocacy, collective action, and the reimagining of a more equitable and resilient civic future.
